High court nullifies Homabay county Governor Cyprian Awiti’s August 8 election victory

Judge Joseph Karanja ruled that the independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) did not conduct a free and fair election.

The court consequently ordered for fresh poll to be conducted in Homabay. Awiti election was being challenged by former Kasipui Member of Parliament (MP) Oyugu Magwaya.

He becomes the second Governor to lose an election petition.
